What is amber?

Amber is not a mineral in the strict sense, but a fossilized resin derived primarily from prehistoric conifers. It is distinguished by its warm hues, ranging from golden yellow to orange-brown, sometimes even red or green, and can contain fascinating inclusions such as insects or plants trapped millions of years ago.

The main amber deposits are located in the Baltic Sea region, notably in Lithuania, Poland, and Russia (Kaliningrad), where amber over 40 million years old is mined. The Dominican Republic is also renowned for its clear, sometimes bluish amber with particularly visible inclusions. Other notable sources include Mexico, Burma (Myanmar), and more recently, Ukraine and Canada.

What is the symbolism of amber?

Amber is traditionally associated with warmth, vitality, and protection. Since ancient times, it has been considered a solar stone, carrying positive energy and comfort. Its golden light evokes the sun and life, and it is often used as a talisman against negative energy and harmful influences. In many cultures, it is believed to have purifying properties, capable of absorbing physical and emotional pain. In lithotherapy, amber is known to soothe anxiety, strengthen self-confidence, and stimulate natural healing powers.
